A new interactive map of the SES satellite fleet

Among our projects with the SES group, we were asked to replace the original interactive map showing the footprints as well as some technical details of the SES satellite fleet. The challenge was to make it aesthetical, easy to use and easy to maintain as the information is regularly updated.

We chose FLASH for its graphical capacities and the wide availability of the plug-in. The downside of this technology is that it generally requires a specialist to make updates. Therefore we took advantage of the possibility to import data from external sources.

Each of the 40 satellites is managed via an object in the InfoPark CMS thanks to custom content types. All of the characteristics (name, fleet, orbital position, photo...) can be edited easily without a specific administration interface. A script provides the data to the Flash application via an XML feed. Therefore no modification of the Flash movie is required for updates.

At Nvision we believe in getting the most out of each technology to provide simple solutions. We achieve this thanks to the collaboration of all the competencies of our teams: web design, interactivity and CMS development.
